Carcavelos??

I was supposed to meet a friend who is not able to make it. I will be staying at the Riviera hotel for a couple of days. How is the place? Now that I am going to be alone, I don't really know what to do or where to go for fun. I will have no car and am looking at trying to get a phone as soon as possible. My friend lives in MOnte Estroil, so I'd like to be near that area in case things change. Help. I'm trying to make good on a trip gone bad...

I haven't seen that hotel but its location is halfway between Lisbon and your friend's town Monte Estoril (which is actually simply part of Estoril).
You won't really need a car. There's a a train line running parallel to the waterfront linking Cascais-Estoril and Lisbon. Carcavelos is one of the stops in between. It's a suburb known for its large beach. For fun, dining, etc., I suggest you go to Cascais, Estoril, and of course, Lisbon.
