Located in the suburb of Cascais, this is one of the most beautiful beaches around Lisbon (also with one of
the best sunsets), but can be windy and the waves are powerful, which
doesn't make it the best beach for swimming. But many see it as the best
place for windsurfing in Europe (it has hosted world championships), and
when the wind dies down in the early or late hours, it is also good for
surfing.
Sit at "Bar do Guincho" for a drink or light meal and gaze at it all.
Cascais can be reached by train from Lisbon's Cais do Sodré station (taking about 40 minutes). To reach Guincho, you can go for a long walk of about 30 minutes, or take bus 405 or 415 (each departing every hour from below the "Cascais Villa" shopping mall).
Book Fortaleza do Guincho Hotel to wake up right on Guincho Beach (or search for other Cascais hotels).
